No More Mortgage

No Mortgage

This is a big day for the Kirk household as we pass by a significant financial milestone. This morning I sent off a check to pay off our 30 year mortgage after less than 5 years! I can't tell you how very happy that makes me.

Although we've had the money sitting aside for awhile and though I've been very tempted to just transfer the cash to my trading account (which by the way my wife really encouraged me to do instead of paying the darn mortgage off), we ultimately decided that it was the right thing to do.

I've said this many times here. I very much believe that one of the keys to successful trading is to put yourself in the strongest financial position you possibly can. When all is said and done, I simply couldn't think of a better way than having no debt including the monthly mortgage payment to worry about. For me, it provides peace of mind that no matter what tomorrow brings, I don't have that to worry about any more. In some of the largest financial decisions you can make during your lifetime, peace of mind can and often should outweigh any future potential gain.

Indeed, we've been very fortunate in life in so many ways and I'm so thankful this day has come that allows us to achieve this significant milestone. Thank you for letting me share it with you and for being part of our journey!
