Taking Time To Look Back
Since September 3, 2003, I've now written 4,583 posts and have updated the website 749 of those days for an average of 6 posts per day. During this time, I've shared just about everything on my mind, in my heart, and what has been going on in my life both professionally and personally. Although far from the original plan, The Kirk Report has become a very big part of my life and daily routine. I still enjoy it and the opportunity to share and help others continue to drive me toward improving the website and making it a helpful resource for everyone who visits. Though I make it look easy, admittedly it takes tremendous time and effort to produce this blog.
Something I've wanted to do for while now is to actually take a day and read through everything I've written at the website. Why would I take valuable time and effort to do this? I can think of at least three good reasons. First, it would be helpful to me to know what I've written so I can write about new topics that will be interesting to readers in the coming year. Second, it would provide me some helpful perspective about how the blog and my views on the markets have changed (both good and bad) over the years. Knowing what I've done right and wrong will also help me find areas that need improvement. And, finally, by going through everything I've written in the past, I would also be able to create a more concise list of posts that I think represent my best effort since the beginning. While some of you may use the search engine at the website or occasionally sift through the daily archives, I know from looking at my website statistics there are good posts that have been lost in the shuffle.
Though I occasionally look back to what I've written in the past, I've never actually sat down to read everything I've written from day one until now. Having an extra long holiday weekend provided me this opportunity. So, as departure from the normal routine this week, over the next four days I'm going to prepare posts that will focus on subjects I've written about in the past covering a wide array of topics. Each day this week will be devoted to a specific year (i.e. I'll cover 2003 today, Wednesday I'll do 2004, Thursday will be 2005, Friday will be 2006). I think you'll find many of posts as interesting as I have in putting them together. You'll also see, as I have, that the blog continues to get better with age. Enjoy!
