Hawaiian Rules
- Vacation always seems to go by so quickly
- On the plane trip to Hawaii, I made the mistake of turning on my laptop in order to look "over some charts." When the laptop wouldn't boot to windows (I later discovered my hard drive failed!), I took it as a sign that I shouldn't be even thinking about the market and/or watching any stocks during my trip. I personally think the Menehune are responsible!
- I still think Kauai is one of the most special places I've ever visited. We spent a lot of time this trip hiking around the island using relatively difficult and challenging trails highlighted by The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook: Kauai Revealed by Andrew Doughty and Harriett Friedman. Using that book was incredibly helpful to enable us to see things that most visitors to the island never see including secret beaches, hidden waterfalls, and climbing trails that offer incredible once-in-a-lifetime look-outs. If you decide to visit the islands, pick up a copy before you go.
- It is an incredibly unfortunate sight to see people with their cell phones and blackberries on the beach chatting away like it is just another day at the office. I think a lot of folks have lost the ability to keep work and play in balance.
- We rented a jeep this time in order to go to some very difficult spots on the island, but in retrospect, jeeps are more work than they're worth. Attaching the soft cover top was a real pain so I wouldn't rent one again.
- Real-estate in Kauai is unbelievable. To get a "decent" place to live which is comparable to an "average home" in Minnesota, you should expect to pay no less than $1 million dollars. To simply replicate what we currently own here over there, we'd have to pay much more than that.
- If you like to snorkel, Kauai is a wonderful place to visit. I saw some fish this trip that I've never seen in the past!
- Duke's Canoe Club is still our favorite restaurant on the island, followed closely by Wahooo's

- I'm still working off the time change. If I ever decided to move there, I'd really have to go to work in the middle of the night.
- Kimo's Hawaiian Rules: 1) Never judge a day by the weather. 2) The best things in life aren't things. 3) Tell the truth - there's less to remember. 4) Speak softly and wear a loud shirt. 5) Goals are deceptive - the unaimed arrow never misses. 6) He who dies with the most toys - still dies. 7) Age is relative - when you're over the hill, you pick up speed. 8) There are 2 ways to be rich - make more or desire less. 9) Beauty is internal - looks mean nothing. 10) No Rain - No Rainbows.
